Medications and mind-numbing sameness can't compare to the earnest company of people with whom you can laugh, get to know better, and be silly with. In a painting, it would be the warmth of day after a night in the snow, or the coolness of shade after trekking through wilderness. This is what it's like to have friends and laugh at funny anecdotes and malapropisms, with serious snippets weaving through the dominant skein of here-and-now pleasure.
