Recent email from the mother, inquiring into birthday plans. Do people still throw birthday parties? Been so long I don't have a clue. Her P.S. is brutal: Please, put something on a wish-list neither clothing from Eddie Bauer nor books. I'll outsmart her and ask for a gift certificate to Powell's. She might not realize until too late. Let us hope so.
